In a notable directorial debut, Advait Chandan brings 'Loveyapa' to the big screen, featuring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, who have previously made their mark in OTT projects like 'Maharaj' and 'The Archies.' Released on February 7, this romantic comedy is nearing the end of its first week at the box office, and as per a Sacnilk report, it has collected Rs. 6.25 crore so far.
For those who may not know, the film is a Hindi remake of the successful 2022 movie 'Love Today.' Prior to its theatrical release, there were mixed reactions and predictions about its box office performance. As a result, it opened with a modest collection of Rs. 1.15 crore. However, to everyone’s surprise, the film resonated with audiences, who appreciated the relatable content, fresh humor, and tight screenplay. Consequently, during its debut weekend, the film witnessed a boost, earning Rs. 1.65 crore on Saturday and Rs. 1.75 crore on Sunday.
Sadly, the initial excitement didn't last. Starting the following Monday, the film experienced a significant drop in earnings. From Monday to Wednesday, it struggled to reach a crore in total. On both Monday and Tuesday, it managed to earn Rs. 0.55 crore, and early estimates suggest a slight uptick on Wednesday with a collection of Rs. 0.60 crore.
Additionally, looking at the overall occupancy on Wednesday, it stood at 9.93%, showing a noticeable increase compared to Tuesday.
‘Loveyapa’ is a romantic comedy that follows a Gen Z couple whose relationship takes a wild turn when they are forced to swap phones. As their passwords and hidden secrets are revealed, their bond is put to the ultimate test.
The original Tamil film, directed by Pradeep Ranganathan, was well-received by both audiences and critics, achieving impressive success with a budget of Rs 6 crore and a worldwide gross of Rs 83.55 crore. In contrast, ‘Loveyapa’ was made on a significantly higher budget of Rs 60 crore.
Before the premiere of ‘Loveyapa,’ Karan Johar attended a special screening of the film. He took to Instagram to share his thoughts, giving a shout-out to the performances of Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan.
