Love is Love: Shows That Celebrated 'Love' in All Its Diversity!

After having a week full of romance and love; expressed in the form of flowers, chocolates, promises, hugs and kisses; we wish a Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone out there. When it comes to the idea of love that has been portrayed on our television sets we have grown up watching love blooming between two people irrespective of the hurdles they face.

This Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate the love that has blossomed irrespective of age, caste, appearance or gender of the two people who are too in love to care about those parameters put by the society.

Here are the Television shows and web series that celebrate the idea of unconventional love

Mere Dad Ki Dulhan

The show shows Niya, a young woman,  who worries about her single father and realises that he is lonely. She then sets out to find a suitable life partner for him and comes across Guneet, an eligible female suitor. The show explores an unconventional concept of love which defies the norms of the society. The show is exploring the concept of remarriage. It deals with a father who will be helped by her daughter to get remarried. It has a progressive concept that is not touched by many shows in the industry.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein

The show revolves around Raman, a Punjabi businessman who gets married to Ishita, a Tamilian girl, for the sake of his daughter. The show traces their journey from being strangers to enemies and, eventually, lovers. The story of the show is full of twists with the two marrying for a child to Ishita being a Tamil and also not being able to bear children. Raman and Ishita's love shows that love knows no bounds.

Dhhai Kilo Prem

Deepika and Piyush, two overweight individuals, get married to each other. They help each other overcome body shaming issues on a regular basis. The show shows a beautiful love story and how weight cannot change the love between two people.

Jaat Na Pucho Prem Ki

Jaat Na Poocho Prem Ki is a love story of two individuals Suman and Badal from two different caste backgrounds. It's a concept based on the belief that love is the only thing that can break the restraints of prevailing casteism in the country. It revolves around the idea of caste not making a difference in the lives of two people and how they're two people in love regardless.

Sacred Games

The series has shown the love story of a transgender and a man, that too with a rare delicacy and emotion that it has appealed greatly to the viewers' imagination. When Gaitonde falls in love with Kukoo it is not her body but her ability to push him to do greater things that matters. After being in love with her, he accepts the reality of her being transgender and wants to stay with her regardless. The series opens our mind to love that exceeds all social barriers.

Made In Heaven

Made in Heaven portrays today’s India as a potent blend of old and new where tradition jostles. Revolving around a gay man, Karan, who plays a strong, sensible gay man and his best friend, the show is full of twists. The show polished the idea of being queer and puts it up on the mantelpiece proudly, for the whole world to see.

Diya Aur Baati Hum

Set in Pushkar, Diya Aur Baati Hum, was aimed at breaking the stereotypical image of women in rural India, showcased the inspirational journey of Sandhya who along with the help of her husband Sooraj goes against all odds to become an IPS officer. The show challenges the stigma with Suraj being an illiterate confectioner and Sandhya being an educated woman who wishes to work.
