Late Actor VJ Chitra's Husband Hemanth Arrested in Abetment to Suicide

The untimely demise of Popular South television actress VJ Chithra came as a shock to her family and fans. She was found hanging in a hotel room in Nazarethpettai, Chennai on December 9, 2020. 

As per latest reports, Chithra’s husband has been arrested in the abetment to suicide charges. After six days of interrogation, he was arrested and produced in Poonamallee court and sent to ponneri jail. The couple had registered their marriage two months back and had planned a traditional wedding in January. 

According to the post mortem reports, the Police confirmed it a case of suicide and began the investigation. Initially, they suspected financial issues to be a reason, however, later Chitra's mother accused Hemanth of harassing her daughter and beating her to death. 

Reportedly, Hemanth had a problem with the actress’ intimate scenes. "Hemanth did not like a scene she had enacted on TV. On the day she died, he had also pushed her," Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudarshan told NDTV.

The police have filed Section 306 of the IPC against Hemanth.

On the work front, VJ Chithra worked as a presenter and actress in the Tamil entertainment industry. She received fame with her portrayal of Mullai in Pandian Stores and was expected to begin shooting for a film.
