L2: Empuraan hits 200 Cr faster than 'Chhaava'- Is Bollywood losing the box office battle?

The much-awaited Malayalam sequel, L2: Empuraan, has been rewriting box office history since its release. Starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film has raced past the Rs 200 crore milestone worldwide in just five days, making it the fastest Malayalam film to achieve this feat. The film’s staggering success has also dethroned Chhaava, the Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna starrer, which had previously held the record by crossing Rs 200 crore in seven days.

L2: Empuraan opened to a massive Rs 21 crore on its first day. The collections remained strong over the weekend, earning Rs 11.1 crore on Friday, Rs 13.65 crore on Saturday, and Rs 13.65 crore on Sunday. On Monday, the film witnessed a slight dip but still collected a solid Rs 11 crore, bringing its total India earnings to Rs 70 crore. The film’s Malayalam shows reported an impressive 66.83% occupancy, with Kochi recording a whopping 92.75% on Monday. Meanwhile, its Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi versions recorded 15.29%, 21.64%, and 10.23% occupancy, respectively.

Surpassing Major Releases – What’s Next?

With its current momentum, L2: Empuraan is now targeting the lifetime global collection of Manjummel Boys, which minted Rs 241.03 crore worldwide. Given the film’s strong hold in multiple regions, industry experts predict that Empuraan will surpass this milestone in the coming days.

A sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, L2: Empuraan delves deeper into the life of Stephen Nedumpally, who operates under the alias Khureshi Ab’raam, a mysterious leader of a global crime syndicate. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Kishore, Sachin Khedekar, and Nikhat Khan.
