L.A. Wildfires Halt Hollywood: Critics Choice Awards and More Events Canceled

Hollywood events like Critics Choice Awards and major premieres canceled as devastating L.A. wildfires disrupt productions and schedules.

LA wild fire

The devastating wildfires raging across Los Angeles have caused widespread disruptions in Hollywood. With powerful winds fueling the flames, communities in Pacific Palisades, Eaton Canyon, San Fernando Valley, and Riverside County are among the hardest hit. Homes have been destroyed, and several high-profile events and productions are now on hold.

Some of Hollywood’s biggest events have been rescheduled, including the Critics Choice Awards, the BAFTA Tea Party, and the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards. Additionally, the premieres of highly anticipated films like The Last Showgirl and Back in Action have been postponed. Safety concerns have also halted several ongoing television productions.

Popular TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Hacks, Doctor Odyssey, and Abbott Elementary have paused filming due to the hazardous conditions. Even late-night talk shows, including Jimmy Kimmel Live and After Midnight, have temporarily stopped production. The impact of the wildfires has left both fans and creators deeply concerned.

Rescheduled events include the GALECA Dorian Film Awards and the Mammoth Film Festival, which will now take place in February 2025. Other significant awards, such as the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, Writers Guild of America Awards Nominations, and American Cinematheque’s Tribute to the Crafts Awards, have also been delayed.

In-person gatherings like the SAG Awards nominations announcement and the British Academy Tea Party have been canceled entirely. Film premieres for projects like The Pitt, Better Man (a biopic on Robbie Williams), Unstoppable starring Jennifer Lopez, and several others are also affected.

Even touring productions have been impacted. Comedy legends Martin Short and Steve Martin have paused their Only Murders in the Building tour, citing the challenges posed by the wildfires. As Hollywood faces this unprecedented crisis, the industry is rallying to support affected communities while prioritizing safety above all else.
