Kriti Sanon Recites Powerful Poem against Domestic Abuse; Video below

Kriti Sanon took to her social media to share a powerful and touching poem on domestic abuse. She wrote the poem when she was in class 11 after listening to her house help’s story. Sharing the poem, she urges women to stand up against domestic violence and report the cases.

Ever since the Coronavirus pandemic led to the lockdown, the number of abuse cases has seen a surge as the victims are now locked inside their homes with their abusers. Recently, actor Rahul Bose launched a campaign along with Bollywood stars like Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar and Madhuri Dixit urging their fans to say no to domestic violence.

Kriti has joined the bandwagon and has come forward to do her bit and spread awareness and encourage women to raise their voice against violence. In the poem that she penned as a teenager, she talks about how a woman is abused on a daily basis by her drunk husband and how she goes to sleep thinking that she survived another day.

The poem titled 'Abused', Kriti opens with: “As the sun sets spreading blood all over the sky, my heart starts sinking once again, sweat goes down my neck strikes. Feet steady at the door, he’s gonna be late. Wait I can hear him come, the sound is not a stranger. I can hear the doorknob, I can smell the danger. The odour tells me he’s drunk again, full of frustration, ready to deliver some pain.”

She adds, “He throws me down like an insane, another mark he has left on my body, my sobbing acts like music and lulls him to sleep.”

She wrote alongside her post: “Stand up for yourself & REPORT..because Its NOT OKAY! It breaks my heart to read that the domestic violence cases have almost doubled up during the lockdown period! About 700 cases alone in Punjab! And these are just the ones Registered! Imagine how many are not reported! If you are going through any kind of domestic violence, PLEASE REPORT!”

Kriti also shared a few emergency helpline numbers to help the people strangled with domestic abuse. “ONLY YOU can control your life.. so stand up for yourself! Its NOT OK for anyone to physically hurt you.. no matter what the reason is! ITS NOT OK!” she added.
