(****1/2 (4.5/5)) Kota Factory 2 on Netflix follows the life of Vaibhav, a young student on his journey to Maheshwari - one of Kota’s leading training institutes, and how he tries to balance his friendships, his relationship with his mentor, and the looming pressure of getting into IIT.

Kota Factory 2

Kota Factory 2 resumes where we left it at. Vaibhav (Mayur More) is gearing up for classes at Maheshwari along with his new friend Sushrut. On the other hand, students at prodigy, including Vartika (Revathi Pillai), Meena (Ranjan Raj), and Uday (Alam Khan) are concerned at their beloved Jeetu Bhaiya (Jitendra Kumar) has not been taking classes. And of course, there is Ahsaas Channa's Shivangi, making one thing better at a time. Without giving away any spoiler, all you need to know is that the story takes some interesting twists and turns, however, it also addresses some serious concerns while at it.

Directed by Raghav Subbu and coming from the country's all time favourite creators, The Viral Fever, Kota Factory 2 has gotten mature, and infuses inspiration with reality.

Performances

Every single character in Kota Factory 2 has an individual character arc, and it makes for one where we are bound to learn something or the other. Starting off with everyone's favourite, Jitendra Kumar and Jeetu Bhaiya will make you go 'are, kya actor hai yeh' and in a good way, every time he is on the screen. His screen presence changes the vibe of the show each and every single time. Given the way this story progresses, there's also a progression in his character and in Jeetu Bhaiya as a person. However, trust Jitendra to keep central essence of the character, and the show, absolutely intact.

Mayur More As Vaibhav is another great performance in the show, and while many might relate to him at various steps of confusions, being lost, and even his love life, for that matter, he also adds to the core theme of the show, and writing. A personal favourite, Ahsaas as Shivangi is also a breathe of fresh air to the show. While everyone would want a friend like her, to be able to portray that on screen and not look pretentious is a job that she has done really well.

Moving forward, we have Revathi, Uday, and Ranjan, and all three of them have done an equally great job at adding to the story. Their performances are crucial to the story and they each, have a part to play, which has been done well. Ranjan is also another favourite for being able to play the role of Meena with so much subtlety and making him likeable. Through each of them, the makers have tried to touch upon the diversity of students that exists, making it relatable, and also humorous, of course.

Among other notable performances is that of Sameer Saxena's Mr. Maheshwari. Though he may not be the most likeable of characters, he does nail the character just fine. Harish Peddinti's role is also one that you come to adore, if not often acknowledge over the due course of this season. Arun Kumar as Deepak, continues to do what he does, making it a noteworthy performance.

The Good

Mayur More, Ranjan, Alam

First things first, is the absolutely beautiful story that the creators have managed to put together. Due credits to writers Abhishek Yadav, Saurabh Khanna, Sandeep Jain for being able to come up with such intricate details in a story that could have easily felt repetitive. Through the second season, we see how there are so many more things that need to be talked about, including the conversation around how engineers aren't just males, and also incorporating that into their narrative. There are a bunch of topics that the show touches upon, some which currently might not be so-spoiler free, but these are concerns that exist, and kudos to the creators for being able to put them forward in a mature, well-executed manner.

Apart from great performances from everyone in the cast, and flawless writing, the cinematography and direction are also great additions to making the show look and feel the way it does. Cinematographer Jerin Paul, director Raghav, and editor Gaurav Gopal Jha have truly created yet another master-piece for a show that is timeless. There are a bunch of shots that are really cool, to say the least, one of them being those taken just minutes before the JEE Advanced results are due in the show.

Among other things, there's also beauty in the way the show handles a relations, also building up on its theme of the old-school 'Guru-shishya' bond, friendships, and even teenage love, for that matter.

Kota Factory 2 cast

There is truly a little too much of good that exists in Kota Factory 2 and we are not complaining. When the last episode of the last season ends, we see a scene briefly moving from black and white to colour, and while the show resumes in colour, there's a shift once again, the underlying meaning of which, we know the director wants to be left upon us to understand. (he told us so in our interview as well)

Verdict

Well, there are no two ways about just how fine Kota Factory 2 is as a show and how everyone has come through. Indian shows have been breaking the second season curse and how, and with a much-awaited 3rd season, (you'll know once you see it), high hopes continue to ride on this one.
