(***(3/5)) Dhamaka narrates the story of reporter Arjun Pathak (played by Kartik Aaryan) and how one call about a blast on the sea link turns his life upside down.

Dhamaka review

Dhamaka on Netflix is Ram Madhvani's latest film and is now streaming for the viewers to see. The film, which is an adaptation of the South Korean film The Terror Live, features the likes of Kartik Aaryan, Mrunal Thakur, and Amruta Subhash in pivotal roles.

Performances

Kartik Aaryan as Arjun manages to get the nuances of his character right. As the actor takes on a different kind of role, it takes time to see him settle on the screen and for us to see him settling on the screen, however, once he gets into the character, it is just about right. Aaryan has stepped out of his comfort zone for this one and visibly so but it also goes without saying that there's more potential to what he could have done.

Mrunal Thakur as Saumya Mehra Pathak, has fleeting appearances and is in fact, a special appearance in the film and she does her part just fine. In fact, one would've liked to see more of her. Amruta Subhash as the boss to Arjun is one of the finest role, both in terms of writing and the performance. Subhash is truly a great actor and given the varied roles she continues to play in the OTT space, she never disappoints. Sohum Majumdar, the voice behind Raghubir, is also one of the finest performances that there is in the film. Though you don't see much of him, you do in fact, feel a lot of what he does and has to say.

The Good

By the end of the movie, you come to a realisation that it all takes place within the confines of a studio, and for that, the story is well written and well directed. One might only wonder, what are the events that could happen in such a short time and in such limited space, but well, you see things roll out one after the other, and there are mini dhamakas here and there that you definitely don't see coming. The story is crisp and duration is shorter than regular, which you would like to think is a good thing for a major part of the movie.

The Bad

On paper, there may not be anything wrong with the movie, but throughout the film, you are left looking for some major action and drama to unroll, and while you partially see it happen, it doesn't seem enough. There are visible flaws in the movie, but it is only after you see it, you will understand. Honestly, the only bad thing here is you don't feel like you've seen enough and while its not like you hoped for certain things to happen, but you sort of wish for some kind of closure, to the film, if not the story.

Verdict

Dhamaka

It is the weekend and if you are looking around the block to find the perfect fit while you scroll Netflix with food on your plate, you might just hit play on this one and see for yourself where it takes you. With the liberty for many, to simply switch to a different show/film, this isn't the kind of film that guarantees you, you won't have the urge to move to the next.
