Karisma Kapoor’s kids, Priya Kapur & others summoned by Delhi HC in Sunjay Kapur family trust controversy

The long-running Kapur family inheritance dispute has taken a fresh turn, with the Delhi High Court issuing summons to Priya Kapur and 22 others in a legal battle initiated by Rani Kapur, mother of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. What began as a private family disagreement has now grown into a closely watched courtroom drama, pulling in multiple members of Sunjay’s blended family.

A Trust Under Question

At the heart of the dispute is the RK Family Trust. Rani Kapur, now 80, has alleged that the trust was set up without her informed consent at a time when she was unwell and vulnerable. According to her petition, the trust effectively removed her from assets that she claims were originally hers. She has gone on record calling the trust “fraudulent” and has challenged both how it was formed and how it has been managed since.

Acting on her plea, the Delhi High Court, now hearing the matter under Justice Mini Pushkarna, has issued notices to Priya Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s wife at the time of his death, along with other beneficiaries named in the trust. However, the court has not granted any immediate relief, such as freezing the trust’s operations, and has listed the matter for further hearing in March.

How the Feud Took Shape

The legal fight has been unfolding for over six months and gained momentum after Sunjay Kapur’s sudden death due to a heart attack in June last year. Rani Kapur soon moved the court, questioning decisions taken during that period and alleging that she was sidelined from family wealth without her knowledge.

Interestingly, just a day before the latest summons were issued, a single-judge bench recused itself from the case, citing concerns around the serious allegations being raised. The reassignment of the case has only added to the sense of unease and complexity surrounding the matter.

Sunjay Kapur’s Family Web

Sunjay Kapur’s personal life adds another layer to the dispute. He was first married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, and later to actor Karisma Kapoor. Sunjay and Karisma divorced in 2016 and share two children, Samaira and Kiaan, both of whom have now been named as respondents in the case. In 2017, Sunjay married Priya Kapur, with whom he had a son, Azarias.

As the case stands today, no interim orders have been passed, but the court’s decision to summon all key parties signals that the legal scrutiny is far from over.
