Karan Kundrra on being grateful for Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, returning to fiction TV and his cameo

Karan Kundrra managed to create an impact with his performance as Ranveer in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Not only was his cameo a strong one, but he also won hearts for his character and make a mark on fans of the show. He has now bid the show a goodbye and a happy one at that, as he revealed how the journey has been better than he was promised, and a satisfying one at that. The Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actor spoke to India Forums about his journey on the show, what's next, and more. 

On the journey and the experience with DKP...

I am actually very overwhelmed and happy and grateful to Rajan ji and everybody at Director's Kut, from actors to the crew to the entire team, it was actually a very different experience for me. I have to say that I got a lot of love and gave a lot of love, so the experience has been fantastic. Working with a producer of Rajan ji's stature, he comes across as a very passionate person for his work, and the sense of family is very big at DKP, and not just one show, but all the shows. When you work on such shows, you understand why they go on for such a long time because it is a family feel.

Your takeaway from the show?

In terms of takeaway, in such a short time, on daily soaps where people's characters don't change for 7-8 years, I have gotten such a chance, and the response was amazing, and the cameo got extended. The amount of difference in the portrayal of actors, from action to drama, the graph of Ranveer was a fantastic graph, something which does not happen on television. 

Would you have wanted the track to last a little longer?

Not at all. If you read the initial articles, I was very clear that it is a cameo and I am not going in a daily soap, and I don't want to drag it. I don't like my characters getting dragged.

On television, where shows go on for 5-6 years, it is very rare that you find that one character over a period of 4-5 months is given so much graph and so much to do. It is almost like doing an action-thriller or an OTT in 4 months. Whatever I was promised for my cameo in Yeh Rishta...they gave me much more.

About playing Ranveer and the so many shades to him.

I believe that Ranveer's character in such a short time has been given so much, right from the day he entered to the day he exited the show, it was a roller coaster ride. On television, where shows go on for 5-6 years, it is very rare that you find that one character over a period of 4-5 months is given so much graph and so much to do. It is almost like doing an action-thriller or an OTT in 4 months. Whatever I was promised for my cameo in Yeh Rishta...they gave me much more. I am very happy with everybody and I just thank them. Not only my fans, people who watched the show, also gave me a lot of love, and every day I came to know from people watching the show for years, appreciating me. When I am happy doing a character, it shows on the screen, the hard work shows on the screen, and the fans see it too. My journey is over and it was exactly the way we had planned it, and it did really well. It was supposed to end earlier but it extended and I am very happy that I left a mark on everybody.

Will we see you on TV soon?

I don't know, this has just ended recently, so I have some offers, and I am looking at them. I don't know what am I going to do. Television fiction, maybe not.

What is a particular kind of show/genre you wish to explore

There is nothing as such. I have finished a very heavy track, it was not an easy character to play for me, it was physically and mentally draining, the kind of emotions that he had to portray, right from heartbreak to the father to action, etc. Let us see what happens, but I am not doing fiction for a while, I don't come to the TV so soon anyway. I am in talks for certain things right now.
