Last year, on September 6, 2018, the Supreme Court of India passed a historic judgment of scrapping Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that criminalizes homosexuality. The decision came as a celebration for not only the Queer Community, but for the whole nation as well. Besides many other popular personalities, the stars of Bollywood had also come forward to express their support for the significant move.
Amongst all the other stars, the Dharma head honcho and filmmaker Karan Johar has often been vocal about his opinions on social media. And, during the wave of decriminalization of homosexuality, KJo had taken to his Twitter to hail the movement and wrote, "Historical judgment!!!! So proud today! Decriminalising homosexuality and abolishing #Section377 is a huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights! The country gets its oxygen back!"

He revealed that he had cried on the day the judgment was passed and felt really content with the revolutionary decision.
“I woke up and cried that day for myself and for the community because there was finally freedom. It was a historical judgement. And it was just a moment to celebrate one true love. I’m so glad that it is finally accepted legally, that you can love who you love", Karan started off by saying at the event.
He also mentioned that the judgment day, September 6, also happens to be his dad Yash Johar’s birthday. “That particular day, ironically, was my father's birthday. I felt the freedom that day”, Karan said.

When asked about how long does he think it will take for India to truly accept the LGBTQA community, Karan Johar said, “I think it will be accepted over a period of time. And cinema or literature or reportage on it will facilitate that. Yes, there will be opposition. But it will happen. See, today there are already films (referring to Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, starring Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao) being made on this subject and the audience is accepting it, too. So it will happen gradually”, quoted India Today.
