Rishi Kapoor left for heavenly abode on April 30, 2020 at HN Reliance Hospital in south Mumbai after his prolonged battle with cancer. In 2018 the veteran actor was diagnosed with cancer, soon after which he left for the States for treatment. For more than a year Rishi was in a hospital in New York and was undergoing treatment for Cancer. However, after putting up a brave fight, he succumbed to his illness and breathed his last a day after renowned actor Irrfan Khan passed away.
At around 8:45 am IST, Bobby actor passed away and on the same day at around 5 pm IST, Rishi was put to rest by his near and dear ones. His last rites were held at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Marine Lines, Mumbai.
Three days post his demise, his ashes were immersed in the Banganga tank, in Malabar Hill area of Mumbai. Neetu Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni performed pooja for Rishi Kapoor. Also present there were Alia Bhatt and Brahmastra director Ayan Mukerji.
The prayer meet was held on Saturday. Rishi Kapoor’s brother Randhir Kapoor confirmed that his ashes were immersed in Banganga as they were denied permission to go to Haridwar.
While speaking to PTI, Randhir Kapoor said, “We did a prayer meet yesterday. Today we immersed his ashes in Banganga as we haven't received permission from the authorities to go to Haridwar.”
A picture from Rishi Kapoor’s prayer meet went viral on social media yesterday and showed Neetu Kapoor and Ranbir sitting next to Rishi Kapoor’s photo, looking glum.
A family source revealed that Rishi Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, who was, unfortunately, unable to attend her father’s funeral, was present at the prayer meet. “There were not many people, Only five-six family members," informed the source.
Rishi Kapoor’s last rites were performed at a crematorium in South Mumbai, in the presence of family and close friends. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt, also present during the rituals were Kareena Kapoor Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, among others.
