Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 22 (IANS) Well-known film and TV serial actress Malika Sukumaran Wednesday denied any links with a financial firm that has cheated more than 3,000 investors to the tune of Rs.5 billion.

'A leading Malayalam newspaper has been reporting without naming me that I have been working overnight to hide Chandramathi, a government employee who is named as an accused in the cheating case,' Malika, wife of actor Sukumaran, told reporters here.

'I know Chandramathi by virtue of she being a member of the Film Censor Board. We have had no relation at all - be it in financial or any other deals. It is really painful that baseless allegations are being levelled against my family and me,' added Malika.

The financial firm is Total4U, which was owned and managed by 20-year-old Sabarinath who was arrested by the police in September. Since then, six others including four women who had business relations with Sabarinath have been put behind bars.

But Chandramathi, who is believed to have been in charge of getting clients, is still on the run.

'I am really pained that despite being a good friend of the media, no one approached me to find the facts. So I decided to come and meet you. I am 54 years old now and mother of two upcoming stars (Prithviraj and Indrajit) and I am totally innocent,' said Malika.

Prithviraj won the Kerala state best actor film award last year. His brother Indrajit is also a busy actor and is all set to star in a Telugu film shortly.

Sabarinath, who studied up to Class 12, fell out with his parents when they refused to give him money to start his business. He began as a financial consultant with a life insurance company and 18 months ago launched his firm Total4U.

He used to offer Rs.160,000 on an investment of Rs.100,000 for three months.

Sabarinath had a lavish lifestyle and owned many luxury cars. He even opened a recording studio in a prominent hotel at Kochi in July. The police have also seized more than a dozen luxury cars including a BMW that he had gifted to his girlfriend.

The other absconding accused include an air hostess whose mother Hemalatha, a bank employee, has been arrested.
