On Monday, Kangana Ranaut expressed her support for Shabana Azmi on Twitter, following the latter's comments on the controversial film 'The Kerala Story.' Shabana had criticized those who were calling for a ban on the film, which alleges a dangerous conspiracy to recruit young girls from Kerala into the terrorist organization ISIS.

After the film was pulled from theatres in Tamil Nadu on Sunday due to threats, Shabana compared the situation to demands for a ban on the film 'Laal Singh Chadha,' which starred Aamir Khan in the lead.

Shabana Azmi's tweet about the controversial film 'The Kerala Story' has sparked a debate, with Kangana Ranaut showing her support for the veteran actor's views. Shabana criticized those who were calling for a ban on the film. She stated that once the Central Board of Film Certification clears a movie, nobody has the right to act as an "extra-constitutional authority."

The veteran actor tweeted, "Those who speak of banning #The Kerala Story are as wrong as those who wanted to ban Aamir Khan's #Laal Singh Chaadha. Once a film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification, nobody has the right to become an extra constitutional authority."

In response, Kangana agreed with Shabana's point but attended that people didn't want to see the film 'Laal Singh Chadha for various reasons, including the fact that it was a remake of a famous Hollywood classic.

Reacting to her tweet, Kangana wrote, "This is a very valid point except for the fact that no one asked for a ban on LSC people just didn't want to see it for many reasons, major reason was it was a remake of a very popular old Hollywood classic which most people had already seen…"

The demand for a ban on the film The Kerala Story has led to a heated debate, with some seeking tax exemptions in BJP-ruled states.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has accused opposition parties of supporting terrorism and the proscribed PFI by protesting against the movie. Thakur argued that the film highlights those who seek to lure girls into the path of terrorism.

For the unversed, The Kerala Story showed immense growth on Sunday with around ₹16 crore collections. It has been directed by Sudipto Sen and stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani.
