Kalank director Abhishek Verman’s father R Verman passes away; B town celebs offer condolences

Kalank director Abhishek Verman’s father and noted Bollywood art director passed away on July 30. Ratna Verman Shetty Mostly credited as R.Verman is best known for his work in films like Andaz Apna Apna, Humraaz, Baazigar among many more. He had been unwell for some time and after his condition worsened recently, he was admitted to a hospital for the required medication and treatment. However, after suffering a cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning, Verman passed away at 12.30 am.

Abhishek Verman carried out the ritual duties and performed the last rites of his father at Oshiwara crematorium. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the director’s industry friends and Bollywood celebrities like filmmaker Karan Johar, actors Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, directors Shashank Khaitan and Anurag Singh visited to offer their condolences.

R Verman was an alumnus of Mumbai’s JJ School of Art and also owned a publicity designing and a movie advertising company. The late art director has a plethora of films which have amassed great success over a period of time. In collaboration with late Dev Anand’s production house, he worked on films like Jewel Thief and Guide. 

While he worked as a publicity designer, R Verman decided to venture into art director and has worked on more than 350 films over his span of his profession, which includes classics like Betaab, Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai and Hum to name a few.

R Verman’s son Abhishek Varman had been assisting under KJo’s Dharma Productions for a while before he paved his way into direction. He has directed 2 States but rose to fame with Kalank, that starred Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt in lead roles.
