Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara name baby boy after actor's late brother

Oscar-winner Joaquin Pheonix and his fiancee, actor Rooney Mara have welcomed a baby boy. The duo has decided to name their son, River Phoenix, in memory of the Phoneix's later borther, who died at the age of 23 in 1993. 

As per the reports in US magazine, the news about the couple's baby boy was shared by Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival. During the Q&A session, he went on to reveal how that is why he is not there for the promotions of documentary Gunda, and further revealed the name of the baby as well.

The news about the couple execpting their first child came earlier in May this year. The two met back in 2016 on the sets of Mary Magdalene and they began dating post their red carpet debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2017. It was in July last year that the duo got engaged after living together for a while.

At his speech during the Oscar win, Phonenix had remembered his brother with kind words, and said, “When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric, he said, ‘Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow’.”
