Jigyasa Singh: To Be Honest, I Was Apprehensive About Playing The Character Initially!

Colors’ long-running and popular show, Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki is all set to take a generation leap now, post which there will be a new storyline and new cast. Earlier, the show featured Rubina Dilaik and Vivian D’sena in lead roles and the show dealt with the sensitive issue of the pressures of leading the life as a transgender. 

Post the leap, the storyline will still focus on the transgender rights and all, but the show will be led by Jigyaa Singh, Avinash Mukherjee and Meherzaan Mazda in lead roles while Kamya Punjabi will be seen continuing her character. 

We got in touch with Jigyasa Singh on her new journey as the lead in Shakti, and she spoke about continuing the legacy of the show, playing a transgender and more.  

When asked whether why she chose to do the show, Jigyasa said, “It’s a very challenging role and for any actor it will be an honor to play this role. I’ve always wanted to do such strong and challenging roles and continuing the legacy of Rubina was interesting to me and the transition into my character was a little easy for me because she has portrayed the character for three long years and it has received a lot of love and support from the audience.”

We asked if she was apprehensive of playing a transgender on screen because not everyone can do that, and she said, “To be honest, yes I was a little apprehensive about the character but slowly I felt comfortable. But I know for a fact that the transgender community still faces a lot of difficulties and they are still fighting for basic rights as their identity is still not accepted by people. The show is about accepting who we are and knowing our inner power and we’re trying our best to spread the message.”

A lot of shows on television start off by giving a social message but over the time they all become Saas-Bahu sagas. Giving her opinion about the same Jigyasa said, “Yes, you are absolutely right and I agree to your point, but see television is a very influential medium and apart from giving a social message we also have to keep in mind that we have a set of target audience and we have to entertain people too. The makers bring in all the drama to keep the viewers engaged and entertained and in fact fans want to watch it.”
