Veteran actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan has shared her views on the ongoing ‘ripped jeans’ controversy. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat’s recent comments questioning women irked many causing a havoc on social media.
Mrs. Bachchan condemned Rawat’s remarks and stated that such statements encourage crime against women.
“Those in higher posts must think and make public statements. You say such things in today’s times, you will decide who’s cultured and who’s not based on clothes? It’s bad mindset and encourages crimes against women”, Jaya Bachchan told ANI.
Recently, her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda had also reacted strongly to Uttarakhand CM’s comments. Navya had expressed her anger as she wrote, "Wtf. Change your mentality before changing our clothes :) because the only thing shocking here is the message comments like this send to society. Just (angry emojis)."
She had also shared an old picture of herself wearing ripped jeans and said, "I'll wear my ripped jeans. Thank you. And I'll wear them proudly :)."
However, Navya later deleted the post.
For the unaware, Tirath Singh Rawat recently made some controversial remarks during a recent workshop in Dehradun, as he said, "Showing bare knees by wearing ripped jeans just to look like rich kids is the value given now which is just a race towards westernisation when the Western world today is following us. Ripped jeans pave the way for societal breakdown and is a bad example parents set for children."
