After battling with the neuroendocrine tumour for two long years, Irrfan breathed his last on April 29, 2020. It will always be considered as a dark day as cinema lost one of the finest actors to have worked in the industry and his unfortunate demise shattered all his family, friends and fans.

A year has passed since his demise but the pain is still fresh and especially for his wife Sutapa Sikdar. In a recent interview, Sutapa opens up about the year without his partner, the loneliness she feels and how she is coping up with the loss.

Speaking to Times of India, Sutapa says that she has not healed from Irrfan Khan’s demise yet. She shares that she has not been able to focus on work.

"No, it’s not healing. I have got work to do. I have got offers to write, but I have not been able to concentrate to write. Getting into another zone altogether is becoming very difficult.”

Sutapa shares the heart wrenching feeling of helplessness she faced in the year long journey without her husband Irrfan.

"But sometimes, you know, it just hits me – the helplessness. As if I am lying down and then somebody has really punched me in the lower abdomen. That pain is like a punch. And it’s the whole feeling of helplessness, extreme helplessness which makes you feel very insignificant."

She also talks about feeling lonely after Irrfan Khan’s demise:

“The loneliness is very strong. We were not very social and did not have many friends. It was always a two-people unit (Me and he). Life revolved around him and along with him. It is very difficult to figure out a life without him.”

Sutapa also says that while Irrfan was battling cancer since two years, she always had the hope that he will recover.

“Two months before he passed away, we were planning a holiday. Doctors kept on telling me that this is going to happen anytime but I always had hope that he will recover. I still feel that he is around me.”

Meanwhile, late Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan is all set to carry his legacy forward as he will soon be making his acting debut.
