India has been reeling in the fury of the novel Coronavirus and the nation has seen an unprecedented spike in the cases. Now, in a shocking turn of events, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended for this season.
If we are to go by the recent reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 for the time being amid the surging cases in the country that has led to a few players - both Indian and foreign - opting to pull out of the ongoing season.
The decision comes in view of Monday's IPL 2021 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad being rescheduled after the Knight Riders' spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19.
Now, in a shocking turn of events, SunRisers Hyderabad squad is in isolation after a player tested positive for Covid-19. Meanwhile, one player from Delhi Capitals has also tested positive for the virus.
SRH's match against Mumbai Indians scheduled to be played on Tuesday is unlikely.
Two members of the Chennai Super Kings' IPL contingent too - bowling coach L Balaji, and a bus cleaner - had tested positive for Covid-19.
