India’s leading GEC, Star Plus has been listening to the wishes of its viewers by bringing their favourite shows back on television. Recently, one such popular show, Devon Ke Dev- Mahadev started premiering on the channel and has been winning the hearts of audiences yet again. While the show is re-running on the channel, its pleasing music has also struck a chord with many people. It’s a little-known fact that the talented world music duo of Nirali and Kartik have been the composers of the original Karpur Gauram track for Devon Ke Dev Mahadev back in 2011. Maati Baani made up of both the gifted artists decided to record a song in this global lockdown with a phenomenal collaboration of 17 music artists from 9 countries!

While Karpura Gauram Karunavataram is an ancient Sanskrit Shloka related to Shiva, and a popular aarti in Shaivism, the shloka has been used multiple times in the show Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. Interestingly, the music had become one of the trademarks of Lord Shiva's entry. Keeping the authenticity alive, the song had paved the hearts of the viewers with its harmonious presentation of divinity and soulfulness. Its masterful recreation has once again received a lot of adulation and Kartik shares, “During this lockdown, we chose to create music that would soothe, help and inspire listeners to be positive until we get through this difficult time. It wasn’t an easy task to get together musicians from the worst Covid hit countries like Spain, Italy, Russia, Germany and US. I was looking for a good balance of harmony and percussions, which ensured that we used instruments such as a String section, harp, slide guitar, and heavy percs like taiko drums and the tabla. The video also features Nirali singing in the Dhrupad style in Raga Bairagi which took the song to a new level of trance! One of the other challenging tasks was to edit the video which took almost 10 days. We have been making music via remote collaborations since 7 years, and we feel proud to have recreated on of our most popular tunes to give hope and energize people”

Listening to the Shiva Shloka yet again will definitely give you goosebumps!
