Internationally acclaimed Fashion Designer, Wendell Rodricks No More

Internationally acclaimed fashion designer, Wendell Rodricks passed away at his Goa residence today. The couturier was merely 59 years old. At the time of his death, Rodricks was at his Colvale home in Goa. His untimely demise indeed came as a shock for fashion as well as entertainment industry. Weldell’s family confirmed cardiac arrest to be the cause of his death. 

Over the past years, Wendell made Goan heritage an integral part of his work. He had been collecting many Goan costumes. Wendell's dream was to create a Goan Costume Museum. The designer had already started working on it. Sharing a sneak-peek into his dream project, Wendell shared a post on Instagram, that was his last social media interaction. 

In 2014, Wendell Rodricks was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award. Born into a Goan Catholic family, Wendell did his schooling in Mumbai. He was married to Jerome Marrel. Post finishing his schooling, Wendell went on to pursue catering, he did a diploma in this stream. Later in 1982, Wendell went on to join Royal Oman Police Officers Club in Muscat. However, he left that profession to pursue fashion. 

Apart form designing, Wendell Rodricks also had a flare for writing. He had written three books, first being on Goan costumes titled Moda Goa, History and Style. He also has an autobiography titled the Green Room. In 2017, Rodricks wrote a fictional Poskem: Goans in the Shadows. 

Courtesy his Goan roots, Wendell was also responsible for the way India saw resort wear. Wendell also played an instrumental role in planning the first ever Lakme Fashion Week back in 2000.
