'I’m grateful to join Jhanak': Mridula Oberoi on her return to television

Actress Mridula Oberoi, known for her work in television shows such as Kumkum Bhagya, Bhagya Lakshmi, Yeh Hai Chahatein, Naagin 6, Appnapan – Badalte Rishton Ka Bandhan, and Baghin, is set to return to TV with Jhanak. She joins the cast as Gopa, marking an important comeback for the actress after nearly 2 years.

Sharing her feelings about this new chapter, Mridula said, "All my prayers in last two years are being heard finally and consistent hardwork, discipline and self belief is always seen and heard. I'm grateful to join the cast of Jhanak. I'll be seen essaying the role of Gopa."

She described the opportunity as deeply meaningful, calling it a blessing at a significant point in her journey. "Jhanak has truly come to me like God’s gift. I’m returning to television after almost two years—my last show was Baghin in 2023. I was away from TV while exploring other acting opportunities, such as verticals and web series. Television has definitely evolved. The number of shows may have decreased due to verticals, but verticals are now accepted as another storytelling format. It was a big shift from horizontal to vertical, difficult at first, but now it’s become part of the industry. What I really love is that the stories today are different, beautiful, and women-centric. It’s no longer just typical saas-bahu drama—these shows talk about women standing up for themselves, and that’s something society really needs to see."

An Emotional Return to the Set

Recalling her first moments on the set, Mridula spoke about the emotional connection she shares with television. "I remember standing on the set, talking to my mother, looking up at the sky, and my eyes just filled with tears—that’s how precious set life is for me."

She also admitted feeling slightly nervous about stepping into a new environment but found comfort in the team’s response. "Stepping onto a new set with Magic Moments did make me a little anxious, as I was stepping out of my comfort zone, but the warmth and acceptance here made everything easy. They didn’t just accept me as Mridula Oberoi, they accepted me as Gopa—and that makes this comeback very special for me. Right now, I can’t say much about Gopa, but from what I understand, she is a very positive and loving woman. She deeply loves her son, comes from a good background, yet is very grounded, welcoming, and considerate," she concluded.

Apart from television, Mridula has also appeared in Bollywood films including Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), Love Aaj Kal 2, and Sukhee, adding to her diverse body of work across platforms.
