Veteran actor Pankaj Vishnu seems to have been lucky with Zee TV roping him for the fourth time under its banner. Having done shows like Pavitra Rishta, Hitler Didi and Servicewali Bahu earlier, the actor is currently doing the show 'Yeh Vaada Raha'.

Essaying the role of Shrikant Mohite, Pankaj talks to Tellybuzz about his growth over the years in the industry.

You have been a part of renowned shows in the past. Why did you choose to do 'Yeh Vaada Raha'?

I have been a part of super hit shows like 'Pavitra Rishta' and 'Hitler Didi' where my character was immensely popular and garnered critical acclaim. I have mostly played negative characters in Hindi serials but I have been roped in for essaying main leads in Marathi shows and films earlier.

'Yeh Vaada Raha' offered a strong positive character, which required an immense bonding with his 9 year old daughter Survi. I believe that I have got a fantastic opportunity to break my image of projecting a negative shade monotonously!

What is exceptional in your role that you took up the role of Shrikant Mohite?

I have played very rich characters in past. Contrary to that, Shrikant Mohite is a very simple middle class man, for whom his daughter is his world! I liked the sensitivity and simplicity that the character offers.

How content are you with your character?

I feel blessed on been given this opportunity. The entire team is very supportive and I'm enjoying myself.

There are times when an actor feels that he is being type cast. Have you ever felt that in your career? Please elaborate.

If a show is hit, an actor tends to get offered similar characters because people have loved and accepted the actor in the way he projected himself. But then we need to try and break out of that image. I personally try to dabble in different genres of work and keep the hunger within me as an actor alive.

What is it like doing a Marathi serial? How is it different than a Hindi soap? Also which medium do you enjoy more?

I did a record breaking Marathi show called 'Char Diwas Sasuche' which had a run of 11 years and 3000 episodes. It had highest TRP in history of Marathi television with me playing the main lead! The Marathi television industry is small, where all actors know each other. Most of them are trained actors from theater and I am one of them. On the other hand, I have done plays in Hindi, so I'm quite comfortable with the language.

To answer your question, whatever be the medium, your work speaks for yourself. I love all mediums be it theater, TV or films and I have always made attempts to master each medium.

How has the industry treated you so far and what are your aspirations? What kind of role do you want to portray in future?

I have learnt that this industry respects one's talent but destiny plays a major role along with hard work and talent. This industry has been very kind and has respected my work.. be it Hindi or Marathi. I would love experimenting with my roles by associating with good production houses and directors!

What are your hobbies apart from acting?

I love singing and reading! I learnt singing for a year but could not pursue it! But it is something which is very close to my heart.
