Gone is the era when there used to be originality in Indian music and people used to love it due to their meaningful and relatable lyrics but currently our music industry is going down the lane with every passing year due to the unnecessary remakes of classic songs and the degrading quality of lyrics.

Recently, pop singer Honey Singh and music producer Bhushan Kumar have been booked by Punjab police on the charge of using vulgar lyrics against woman in their latest song. The rapper has been booked following a complaint lodged by Punjab State Women Commission which sought action against him for allegedly using vulgar lyrics in the song. The case has been registered at the Mataur police station in Punjab's Mohali district.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Harcharan Singh Bhullar told PTI that Singh has been booked under section 294 (punishment for obscene song and acts) and section 509 (punishment for word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

He has also been charged under section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and relevant section of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, Bhullar further said.

The controversies related to royalty is also common in the Indian music industry. Recently, lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar expressed his concern as he bashed out at the idea 'Tip Tip Barsa Pani' remake

He was quoted saying to Asian Age, "This has to stop. And I've taken legal recourse in the past. I had sent legal notices to the people responsible for doing this to the song Ghar Se Nikalte Hi from the film Papa Kehte Hai. Unfortunately, Anand Bakshi sahib (who wrote Tip Tip Barsa Paani) is not around any more to protest against this kind of desecration. Today, they change the lyrics of well-known songs. What is to stop them from changing the lyrics of Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, the patriotic classic that has the nation weeping? It may make us weep in another way altogether if, God forbid, they decide that poet Pradeep's immortal lines need updating and revalidation. This is sheer vandalism"

It's sad to see that the quality of Indian music is gradually falling. What do you think about this? Share your views in the comment section below.
