Manisha Koirala, who made a stunning comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, has thrilled fans with an update on the series’ highly anticipated second season. Speaking to India Today, the veteran actress revealed that filming for Heeramandi 2 will commence next year.
"The shoot will begin next year. We are all waiting to be back," Manisha said, sparking excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the sequel.
When asked if the success of Bhansali’s OTT series had led to more opportunities, Koirala responded with a smile, saying that while a few scripts are under consideration, she would only share details once a project is finalized.
Reflecting on her journey into the OTT space, Koirala revealed the skepticism she faced, likening it to her early days in the film industry. “People tend to doubt and caution newcomers initially, only to applaud their success later,” she remarked.
She recounted how, 30 years ago, many believed the film industry was rife with negativity, discouraging ‘a good family’s daughter’ from entering it. The prevalence of yellow journalism at the time often distorted the narrative, making it difficult for newcomers to find their footing.
However, after the success of films like Saudagar, Koirala noted how those same detractors turned into admirers. “Once the work proves itself, perceptions change,” she added, highlighting the cyclical nature of judgment and acceptance.
Koirala emphasized that she never doubted Heeramandi or the potential of the OTT space, crediting her faith in Bhansali’s vision and her belief in digital platforms as transformative forces. "Streaming platforms empower new filmmakers, writers, and ideas, making it the perfect platform for innovative storytelling," she asserted.
Netflix India recently announced Heeramandi 2 in collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali through a vibrant Instagram reveal. The announcement video showcased a troupe of dancers performing at Mumbai’s iconic Carter Road, clad in glittering Anarkalis and ghungroos, perfectly capturing the essence of the series.
The first season of Heeramandi featured a star-studded ensemble, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, Sharmin Segal, and Taha Shah. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the continuation of the opulent saga.
