Sampooran Singh Kalra, popularly known by his pen name "Gulzar Sahab" turned 85 today, and birthday wishes have started pouring in from all corners. Family, friends and fans across the globe have sent in their warm wishes as the legendary lyricist-poet celebrates his special day.
Joining the bandwagon of birthday wishes, filmmaker Meghna Gulzar shared a heartfelt post on her father’s 85th birthday. Sharing a monochrome picture, Meghna penned sweet words that read:
I know I’m protected, Because his arms cradle me. I know I walk the right path, Because his little finger leads me. He dabbles in celluloid, So I know I can see. I know I can write, Because his ink flows in me. I know I can, Because he believes. I know I am, Because he is.-
Besides, birthday wishes from Bollywood stars also poured in for Gulzar Sahab. Shankar Mahadevan shared a picture on his Twitter handle and wrote, "Happy Birthday #GulzarSahabLots of love!!"
Urmila Matondkar went ahead and quoted a stanza from a famous song of the ace lyricist on Twitter, which roughly translates to, 'Without you, I have no complaint from life.' She added, "Can we ever thank you enough for making our lives so much more beautiful #HappyBirthdayGulzar the humblest living legend."
Riteish Deshmukh shared a picture of him with Gulzar captioning "Your words make life even more beautiful.. #HappyBirthdayGulzar Sahab."
Gulzar started his career as a lyricist in the 1963 film Bandini and worked with many music directors including R. D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Vishal Bhardwaj and A. R. Rahman. He is a Padma Bhushan awardee and has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Sahitya Akademi Award. He also won a Grammy as well as an Oscar for his song, Jai Ho for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, and also has five National Film Awards and 21 Filmfare Awards to his credit.
Gulzar also writes poetry which receives big love from his fans across the globe.
