Guneet Monga receives a special welcome at Mumbai airport after winning Oscar for 'The Elephant Whisperers'

At the 95th Academy Awards, Guneet Monga brought honour to India by winning an Oscar for "The Elephant Whisperer" in the Best Documentary Short Film category. The producer was greeted like a hero when she arrived today in Mumbai from Los Angeles.

While her supporters, family, and friends greeted her at the airport as soon as she touched down in Mumbai. In addition to posing with her coveted trophy, Guneet spoke to the press representatives waiting outside the airport.

The producer looked fantastic in a green co-ord set with a print. She finished her ensemble with a long black trench coat and matching shoes. Guneet was observed pausing and posing for the photographers while flashing her million-dollar smile.

She spoke to ANI about her historic victory and said, "The competition was strong. There was another film in the same category supported by Malala Yousazai. But their film worked across countries, ages...the kind of love they got across the world proves that the film worked its magic."

Guneet claimed in an interview that they experienced the power of narrative following their Oscar victory. She disclosed that as a thank-you gift for the 91 elephant carers in the two camps of the state, the state government had allocated Rs 1 lakh from the CM Relief Fund for each of them. Moreover, Rs. 9.1 crore and Rs. 5 crores were given to create mahouts' residences and an elephant camp, respectively, in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.

She also stated that they would keep telling tales that matter and stories that make a difference because she was pleased with the difference she has made. For the unversed, 'The Elephant Whisperers' was nominated against 'Haul Out,' 'How Do You Measure A Year?' 'The Martha Mitchell Effect,' and 'Stranger At The Gate'. This is the second Oscar for Guneet. Her first Oscar was in 2019 for the documentary short film, Iranian American filmmaker Rayka Zehtabch's 'Period: End of Sentence', which follows a group of local women at Kathikera village in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, as they learn how to operate a machine that makes low-cost, biodegradable sanitary pads, which they sell to other women at affordable prices.
