Grammys 2022

The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. It was the first time the Grammy Awards were held in Sin City. Previously slated for January 31st, the event had to be postponed due to the Omicron variant and the subsequent spike in Covid-19 cases.

Except for this year, the Grammys are generally pretty predictable in comparison to other awards. Jon Batiste is the frontrunner with the highest nominations, 11 to be precise. Batiste was followed by Doja Cat, H.E.R., and Justin Bieber, all of whom received eight noms.

With five accolades, which includes Album of the Year for We Are, Batiste surfaced as the big victor. Rodrigo won three awards, including the best new artist. Silk Sonic, comprised of vocalist Bruno Mars and rapper Anderson, won Grammys for "Leave the Door Open" in the Record of the Year and Song of the Year sections.

During the ceremony, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy crafted a surprising appearance via a pre-recorded video message. He urged those listening to talk about the war,

"The war. What’s more opposite than music. The silence ruined cities and killed people. Our children drew swooping rockets, not shooting stars. Over 400 children have been injured and 153 children died. And we will never see them drawing. The war doesn’t let us choose who survives and who stays in eternal silence. Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded. In hospitals. Tell the truth about war. On your social networks. On TV. Support us in any way you can. Any. But not silence,”

Trevor Noah, a South African comedian, hosted the show for the second time in a row. Among those who performed during the ceremony were BTS, Batiste, Billie Eilish, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., H.E.R., Bieber, Lil Nas X, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and John Legend.

The event was broadcast live on SonyLIV, Sony Entertainment Television's streaming service.
