Google on Monday paid a tribute to legendary actress Nargis Dutt with a commemorative doodle on her 86th birth anniversary.

The doodle features an illustration of the "Shree 420" actress holding her dupatta with both hands.

The actress, whose original name was Fatima Rashid, was born on June 1, 1929. Married to actor Sunil Dutt, she had three children with him -- son Sanjay, and daughters Priya and Namrata.

Widely acclaimed as one of India's finest actresses, Nargis made her acting debut in "Talashe Haq" in 1935 as a child actor, but her career began with the 1942 film "Tamanna".

She became a household name in Indian cinema after her groundbreaking work in the Mehboob Khan-directed film "Mother India", which was India's first submission for the Academy Awards.

Nargis won several awards during her illustrious career, including the coveted National Film Award. She was also conferred with Padma Shri.

She succumbed to pancreatic cancer on May 3, 1981, in Mumbai.
