History was created at the beginning of this year, and history has been re-created nine months into the same year. 2023 began with Pathaan bringing in a Tsunami at the box office as it broke one box office record after another and crossed the never-seen-before 500 crore mark.
Following that, the year seemed to be heading towards another lull until the phenomenon of Gadar 2 arrived last month. The sequel spectacle also created several records, and even though it trailed Pathaan in terms of speed and time with getting numbers, it did go on to become the second Hindi film ever to cross the 500 crore mark.
Things have been fantastic already, but now, almost fifty days into release, Gadat 2 has done the unthinkable (for many) and has defeated Pathaan to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time in India. That is right. The trend for Gadar 2 has continuously been fabulous, and even in the seventh week of its release, the film raked in a great Rs 2.75 crores (till Wednesday).ALSO READ: Vikramaditya Motwane advocates for gender equality in Bollywood: "Why can't Deepika lead Pathaan"
This was enough for it to cross the lifetime box office collection of Pathaan in Hindi in India, where Gadar 2's total collection now stands at Rs 524.75 crores and Pathaan's collection at Rs 524.50 crores. But with Gadar 2's life at the box office still going through enough to sustain for the eight weeks, the film might fo another crore ahead.
However, it can safely be said that even though Shah Rukh Khan's historic feat has been toppled by Sunny Deol, King Khan is already on the march and just a few days away from creating more history. With Rs 519.69 crores already in its kitty, Jawan is easily going to beat both Gadar 2 and Pathaan soon. Another new record is going to be for everyone to chase soon.
In the end, to have three 500 crore films already at the box office in 2023 and having a few other potential films that might be chasing soon, it is set to be even more fantastic.
