'Friends would call me 'CHHUDA SAM..': Nehal Chudasama on how her surname was MOCKED growing up

Nehal Chudasama, who was last seen on The 50, has opened up about a sensitive issue that recently caught attention online. Known for her outspoken nature, Nehal addressed how personal remarks, especially around identity, can take a different turn in the high pressure environment of reality television.

In an exclusive conversation with India Forums, she reacted to Bebika Dhurve allegedly making fun of her surname, Chudasama. We asked her if she faced similar situations growing up and how did she deal with the same. Speaking about her growing up years, Nehal shared, "Ah! I mean growing up hone honestly, I never faced anyone teasing me as such. You know the max people would call me was Chudda sambhar." She added that while her friends would probably laugh at those memories today, the current situation feels different because reality shows often shape perceptions. As she explained, "What is happening right now is ki shows mein ek perception jo create hota hai usko dekhkar phir log mere surname ko target karte hain."

Nehal further revealed that things escalated to a point where she had to clarify the roots of her surname publicly. "And it is really crazy that one day I literally had to share a screenshot of the Chudasama dynasty... this is what it means it is not how you mispronounce it or not how you perceive it but this is what I am," she said, highlighting her attempt to reclaim her identity.

When asked about her fellow 'The 50' contestants Khanzaadi and Bebika Dhruve's remarks on her and her surname, Nehal admitted she was unaware of many incidents while inside. "I was there till the last day you know till finale so finale se pehle jo bhi kuch bhi hua hai wo uske baare mein mujhe kuch idea nahi tha," she shared, adding that she only came across certain clips later.

While Nehal maintained that she did not mind Bebika’s comments, she drew a line when it came to intent behind certain remarks. Referring to Khanzadi's 'Chaati chaudi' remark, she said, "I feel like dekho bahut saari cheezein hui thi I was there till the last day you know till finale so finale se pehle jo bhi kuch bhi hua hai wo uske baare mein mujhe kuch idea nahi tha.Overall everything that aisi itni saari chhoti chhoti cheezon pe maine dhyan nahi diya. Haan wo ek clip mujhe saamne aa gaya tha jo Khanzaadi wala and honestly I personally did not mind Bebika saying anything on my surname but I did mind what Khanzaadi said about everything about you know like chaati choudi karke aa jaana and all of that," explaining that words used casually among friends feel very different when spoken with a derogatory tone. She emphasized that such intent can lead to body shaming and trigger insecurities, making it a much larger issue than it appears on the surface.

''But aap jab mujhe wo ek gaali dene ke ya derogatory intent se wo cheez bologe na to us baat ka bura lagta hai. To usmein sab kuch involve ho jata hai body shaming involve ho jaati hai insecurity involve ho jaati hai,'' Nehal concluded.
