Fiction show actors are a part of comic shows but it doesn't work the other way round says Balraj

It's time for the small screen to make space for the comedians, opines Balraj. Currently working for Comedy Circus, Balraj feels that there is a scarcity on Indian television for good comedy shows. In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Balraj shared his insights about how there should be more opportunities for new comic talent in the television industry.

In the conversation, he said that today there is no other show which can replace The Kapil Sharma Show. There is no show which is gaining even the similar popularity or response from the audience. He says that in comedy there is a need for a lot of improvisation, even though the comedians are given a script. And when a new comedian gives his audition, he is given one chance to perform. The game gets over when he fails to deliver in the very first attempt.

Talking about the daily soap actors trying their hands in comedy, Balraj said that fiction show actors juggle two to three shows every month including comedy shows.  He was very vocal about the fact that TV show actors get a chance to be comedians but, it doesn't work the other way round. Besides the influx of fiction show actors, there is no retirement age for it. If an actor is good, he will continue to deliver even after his retirement age. Having said that, he also mentioned that makers of any comedy show want to work with established comedians only. There is little scope for the industry opening up to new comedians. 

He gave his special thanks to Bharti Singh and Sugandha Mishra, who were his batch mates, to show him the right path in the industry. He said that they both took him to the right places and made him meet the right people.
