While India is reeling under the fury of the novel coronavirus, several Bollywood stars have made efforts to do their part in the nation’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar extended his support to the Covid affected families and caregivers in the city of Uttar Pradesh.
The Toofan actor has reportedly teamed up with a not-for-profit organisation and his donations are being used to feed patients and caregivers in distress.
Diyanshu Upadhyay, secretary of the NGO shared that these donations are not only being used to feed the virus-infected patients but also the people working at Harishchandra and Manikarnika shamshan ghats in Varanasi, reported ETimes.
He shared, "Eight of us from the Hope team have been distributing 1000 thalis every day in the city. Each thali has rice, dal, roti, sabzi, salad and biscuits. If we distribute lunch to the hospitals during the day, at night, we focus on the cremation grounds. Farhan sir has always stood by us in our times of need, and we are grateful for his contribution this time."
The NGO’s secretary also mentioned that he reached out to Farhan through social media when the city saw a surge in Covid cases and the actor gave a prompt response and was ready to help. The non-profit organization continues to help amid the nation’s crippling healthcare system and aid patients to find oxygen cylinders, arranging medicines and other medical necessities in these times.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Farhan Akhtar is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Toofan in which he will be seen essaying the character of a boxer.
However, the makers of Toofan recently made a significant statement and postponed the release of the upcoming film owing to the rising Covid-19 cases.
