Comedians are known for their immaculate timings, witty one liners,
hilarious jokes and of course, comical acting. 19th March holds a very
important day for these comedians as this day signifies the 'Let's Laugh
Day' throughout the world. Hence on this occasion, BollyCurry brings to
you the famous comedians of Bollywood, who with their spot-on comic
timing have successfully managed to capture millions of hearts across
the world.
Johny Lever

This man is one of the first to come to mind when mentioning Bollywood comedy. Starting off as a stage performer in
Hope 86,
he has about 350 movies to his credit. Johny Lever, the 'King of
Comedies' as he is tagged, has become an ongoing inspiration for those
who want to try their hand at comedy. Lever received wide recognition in
the film
Baazigar and is remembered for his dialogues in the famous
Abba Dabba Jabba. He is also known for stand-up comedy and mimicking, especially his impression of Michael Jackson at the 1999 Filmfare Awards.
Rajpal
Yadav is yet another memorable comedian of Bollywood, well known for
his unconventional comedy sequences. Yadav is most remembered for his
role in
Main Mere Pati Aur Woh for which he was critically acclaimed for as well.
Hungama, Waqt: The Race of Time, Malamaal Weekly and
Chup Chup Ke are few other films that have earned him a good name in the industry.
Mehmood
Ali, the yesteryear king of comedy ruled millions of hearts in the
1960s. He started his career as a comedian at a time when comedy as a
genre was still taking it's nascent footsteps in Bollywood. He was so
spot on that his films were more remembered for his perfect comic timing
rather than their other aspects. His comic timing, inimitable style and
flair brought the much needed versatility to Bollywood, making him a
star of the era. Some of the movies he starred in were
Gumnam, Pyar Kiye Ja, Pyar Hi Pyar, Love in Tokyo, Bhoot Bangla and
Bombay to Goa to name just a few.
Govinda (Arun) Ahuja
Govinda
is considered to be the king of comic heroes, someone who can easily
make you go on a laughing trail with his impeccable timing. His first
release,
IIzaam, was a box office success making it the fifth
biggest hit of that year. In his initial career, most of his
performances were either family oriented, romantic or action. It wasn't
until the 1990s that he started shining in the comedy genre. He signed
about 17 films, all directed by David Dhawan, most of which were comedy.
Some of the films he appeared in were
Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Deewana Mastana, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Ankhen, among others.
Paresh Rawal, famously known as the
Hera Pheri man, has been entertaining the audience with his humorous comedy since the past three decades. Though he debuted with
Holi, it wasn't until the 1986 Blockbuster
Naam that he first tasted success. The superhit
Hera Pheri was
just the beginning for Rawal as it not only opened another door for him
but also gave him his first Best Comedy Actor award from
the prestigious Filmfare. Ever since he has been seen in many different
successful comedy movies such as
Awara Pagal Deewana, Garam Masala, Deewane Huye Pagal, Malamaal Weekly, Golmaaal: Fun Unlimited and many more.
Arshad
Warsi, also known as Circuit, is yet another famous comedian seen in
many Bollywood movies. His character in the comedy film
Munnabhai MBBS opposite
Sanjay Dutt not only gained him critical acclamation but earned him the
fame which his previous movies couldn't. He has since appeared in
various films, some of them include
Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiyaa,
Salaam Namaste,
Golmaal,
Kabul Express, and
Laage Raho Munnabhai which won him his first Best Comedy Actor award from Filmfare.
Shakti
Kapoor is one of the most able actors of Bollywood when it comes to his
act as a villan and comedian. He has starred in over 400 films
throughout his career, starting with small roles. He didn't achieve
success till 1980-81 when two of his releases,
Qurbani and
Rocky, were
declared blockbusters. It wasn't till the 1990s that he started taking
up comedy films. Few of these which he has completed over the course of
his career are
Insaaf, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Andaz Apna Apna, Tohfa, Chaalbaaz and Raja Babu for which he won the title of the Best Comedian.
Another
one of 1980's famous comedian is Govardhan
Asrani. He was a popular
comedian and is still seen in supporting roles. His latest films
include
Malamaal Weekly, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Garam Masala, Dhamaal, Chup Chup Ke and others. He has also won the Filmare awards for Best Comedian for movies sch as
Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and
Balika Badhu.
