The past few days have all been about how people have been struggling to manage life in this period of lockdown. From the smallest to the biggest of positions, almost every person is directly or indirectly affected by extreme financial woes that they faced owing to being out of work for over three and a half months.
The technicians and spot boys might seem as the obvious ones to be hit, but even several actors have come out and opened up on how they have faced extreme woes in terms of finance and work both.
Recently, we reported about multiple actors going back to their hometown and either quitting the entertainment industry or temporarily taking a sabbatical; now another one has joined the list. Actor Karan Khandwelwal is best known for being a part of shows such as Siddhivinayak, Haiwaan, Saath Nibhana Saathiya among others.
The actor now drove in his car all the way to his home in Kerala due to financial constraints. In an interview with ETimes, Khandelwal said, “Mumbai is one of the majorly affected cities in the country. There was a surge in COVID-19 cases around my area. I couldn’t even arrange food and other necessities for myself. Plus, it was getting difficult to meet other expenses as well.”
He adds, “I had been living in Mumbai since several years, but the current situation forced me to leave the city and drive back to my home town. I drove my car for almost 1,400 kms to reach home.”
When asked about the financial crunch, he said, “My family has been helping me with finances. Before the lockdown, I had shot for a web show and they immediately cleared my payment, which was helpful. But apart from that, I have many other pending dues from other projects. Now, even if I join a new show, I won’t the payment for a couple of months. So, it was a better option to return home.”
Karan, who has also worked in Malayalam TV serials in the past, shares, “I am suffering from a lower back injury, which I got when I was shooting something before the lockdown. So, driving a car all the way to Kerala was a difficult task, but I’m glad to be home.”
