This is in wake of China banning the Comedy Central cartoon.

Seldom would one think that liking one tweet would result in a person getting banned. We certainly have come across various instances where celebrities have run into problems on liking tweets on Twitter that endorse or mention a particular issue. But the fact that someone gets banned may seem a little extreme to some and justifiable to some.

That is, however, what happened renowned DJ Zedd. The DJ recently liked a tweet that was posted related to the controversy of South Park cartoon's China episode. For the uninitiated, Comedy Central's cartoon, South Park telecast an episode that was considered as innocuous to the country. Since then, the episode and the cartoon have been banned in China.

However, DJ Zedd, born Anton Zaslavski now finds himself banned from China as he informed about the same on Twitter. He said, "I just got permanently banned from China because I liked a @SouthPark tweet," Zedd said via a tweet.  His reps confirmed to CNBC Zedd was notified he was banned from the country.

"This is true, yes, but we don’t have anymore info to give you at this time," Adam Guest, senior entertainment publicist at U.K.-based SATELLITE414 agency, told CNBC. It’s unclear if that means Zedd has a travel ban to China.

South Park has since been embraced by those protesting the Chinese government in Hong Kong. Protestors have even been showing pirated copies of the episode that got the series banned in China on the streets of Hong Kong. Parker and Stone have become something of folk heroes to the protestors
