Divyanka Tripathi Criticizes Vikramaditya Motwane’s Comment Comparing Kabir Singh & Hyderabad Rape Case

The horrendous and inhumane rape and murder case of a veterinary doctor has left the entire nation in a state of shock. Nationwide protests began after a partially burnt body of the 26-year-old was found under a bridge. The gruesome gangrape and murder has stormed social media with outrageous messages and posts demanding justice for the victim and her family. Besides common public, the incident has also caught the attention of many celebrities who have condemned the incident. The case has also become a heated topic and led to various debates and discussions across the country.

Recently, Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga tweeted about the same and demanded a brutal punishment for rapists. Replying to which, Sacred Games Director Vikramaditya Motwane took a dig at Vanga and linked the former’s film Kabir Singh with the rape case. “Will that FEAR stop them from slapping her?”

Motwane’s comment has started another debate on whether fictional films should be compared with real-life crimes. In an interview with Spotboye, Television actress Divyanka Tripathi reacted on the directors’ comment and said, “Why does entertainment always have to be about morals and fairytales in India? Films are also a reflection of the society we live in. People like Kabir Singh do exist. It is a direct depiction of this twisted character, that doesn't preach about how he should or shouldn't have been.”

Opposing the comparison between films and reality, “Cinema is not always a moral science class and we shouldn't pigeon hole a film into a family film just because it is performed by a commercial actor. If it had an offbeat actor in it, people would have received it differently,” said Divyanka.
