Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Gulabo Sitabo is a comedy-drama produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar and written by Juhi Chaturvedi. The film, set in Uttar Pradesh, highlights the daily struggles of a man in a humorous tale.

Ayushmann Khurrana will be sharing the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo. Ever since the first look of the duo was revealed, fans have been excited to witness their camaraderie on screen.

The film was scheduled to release in April. Due to the lockdown, theatres are closed and many big banner films have been postponed from their original date.

A barrage of films are waiting for release after the lockdown is lifted and in such a scenario, it will be difficult for filmmakers to accommodate all films for a theatrical release. In case the cinema halls and theatres do not open by June, many films will have to be shifted for a direct digital release.

Speaking of the same, director Shoojit told Mumbai Mirror in an interview, “As a filmmaker, I’d want to see my film open in the theatres, but the situation today is unlike anything anyone had ever experienced. So, I’m open to a digital release if need be, but we will take a decision after May 3.”

On the other hand, talking about his other project, the Sardar Udham Singh biopic, starring Vicky Kaushal, the director says he is keen on having a theatrical release for this biopic. The shooting of the film is complete but it is still in the post-production stage. “Since it is scheduled for January 2021, we are not thinking about it right now. I’d like a film like this to be a big-screen experience. I have lived with this dream for so long that when we were shooting at Jallianwala Bagh, I had tears in my eyes,” he said.

Sardar Udham Singh is a biographical film based on the life of freedom fighter Udham Singh, who was responsible for the assassination of Michael O`Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab.
