Mrunal Thakur is candid about her mixed experience on Son of Sardaar 2. In a recent chat, the actor shared that she walked into the project with a certain understanding of her character, only for it to shift later. What caught her off guard was not being informed beforehand that her on-screen husband would be played by a much older actor, Chunky Panday.
That detail, she admits, changed how she viewed her role entirely. She expected a different dynamic but had to quickly adjust. While she doesn’t dwell on regret, she acknowledged that her trust took a slight hit. For Mrunal, clarity during narration is key, and this gap made her feel she had misread the film’s direction.
Missing Scenes That Meant More

According to her, some emotionally rich scenes were removed during editing, including a deeply personal sequence with Roshni Walia, who played her stepdaughter.
In the storyline, Mrunal’s character Rabia sacrifices her own life to raise her niece after her sister’s death. One particular scene, where the child expresses heartfelt gratitude and acceptance, was especially close to the actor. Its absence, she feels, diluted an important emotional layer of the narrative.
The film, led by Ajay Devgn and co-starring Neeru Bajwa, explores complicated relationships, with Rabia and Jassi bonding over their troubled marriages. For Mrunal, these quieter, emotional beats were essential to fully understand her character’s journey.
Looking Ahead With New Projects
Despite the bumps, Mrunal is keeping her focus forward. She was recently seen in Do Deewane Seher Mein and is gearing up for Dacoit: A Love Story, which has already piqued fans' curiosity.
She also has an exciting lineup ahead, including Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by David Dhawan and featuring Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde. Another film, Pooja Meri Jaan, is also in the pipeline.
While Son of Sardaar 2 may not have unfolded exactly as she expected, Mrunal’s honesty offers a glimpse into the unpredictability of filmmaking. And if anything, it’s clear she’s choosing to move ahead, wiser and more certain of what she wants from her roles.
