The copyright dispute surrounding Dhurandhar: The Revenge has taken a fresh turn after mediation talks between the makers and Trimurti Films failed in the Delhi High Court. The matter is linked to the alleged use of a recreated version of the popular Tridev song Tirchi Topiwala, also known as Oye Oye.

According to court proceedings, Trimurti Films accused the makers of Dhurandhar 2 of using the composition of the 1989 track without proper authorisation. The song in question, Rang De Lal (Oye Oye), is alleged to carry substantial similarities to the original number featured in Tridev.

The original song starred Naseeruddin Shah and was composed by Anand Milind, with lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi. Director Rajiv Rai, associated with Trimurti Films, had earlier criticised the makers publicly and accused them of “theft” over the recreated version.

On Wednesday, lawyers informed the Delhi High Court that mediation efforts between both sides did not lead to any settlement. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela has now listed the matter for further hearing on May 8.

Trimurti Films claimed that the use of the song without a licence amounts to copyright infringement. The production house also raised objections over the commercial use of the track in theatrical screenings, promotions and possible digital streaming plans connected to the film.

Meanwhile, Super Cassettes, which holds the audio rights of Dhurandhar 2 songs, opposed interim relief before the court. The company argued that Trimurti Films had concealed previous instances where songs from Tridev were allegedly reused elsewhere.

B62 Films, one of the producers of the sequel, informed the court that the film has already released in cinemas and is unlikely to arrive on OTT before mid May.

The legal teams for Trimurti Films, Super Cassettes, B62 Films and Jio Studios were also present during the hearing. Dhurandhar: The Revenge stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Danish Pandor.
