Dharmendra’s private hospital moment filmed without consent; staffer arrested for privacy violation

A staff member at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital has been arrested for secretly recording veteran actor Dharmendra and his family during his stay in the intensive care unit (ICU). The incident came to light after the private video began circulating online, showing the emotional Deol family gathered around the 89-year-old actor, who was under medical care at the time.

Dharmendra had been admitted following a health scare that led to widespread concern among fans. The actor spent several days under observation before being discharged on November 12. During his hospitalisation, baseless rumours about his death spread online, forcing his wife, Hema Malini, and daughter, Esha Deol, to clarify that he was alive and recovering.

The leaked footage reportedly captured a sensitive moment — Dharmendra lying on a hospital bed, appearing unconscious, as his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol stood close by. Also seen were Sunny’s sons, Karan and Rajveer Deol, along with Dharmendra’s first wife, Prakash Kaur, seated nearby. The family appeared visibly emotional as the video quickly went viral across social media platforms, sparking outrage among fans over the clear violation of privacy.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the individual responsible for filming the clip inside the ICU has been identified and arrested. Authorities said the staff member recorded and shared the video without permission, breaching both hospital confidentiality and the family’s trust. Police are now investigating how the footage was disseminated and whether others were involved.

On Tuesday morning, shortly after Dharmendra’s discharge, the Deol family issued a statement expressing gratitude for public concern but urged everyone to respect their privacy. “Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We request the media and the public to refrain from speculation and to respect his and the family’s privacy during this time,” the note read.

The family is now focusing on Dharmendra’s recovery, requesting fans and the media to allow him space to rest peacefully.
