Television superstar and the handsome hunk Avinash Mishra recently bagged the lead role of Dev in Star Bharat’s upcoming new show Durga. The actor who has been well appreciated for his previous roles has taken up this challenge to play a mentally challenged boy in this show. The actor said a yes to the role with the blink of an eye. When spoken to his excitement in being a part of this show he said….

Tell us about your show?

The show Durga will showcase the unique story of a simple village girl Durga, an ardent devotee of Mata Rani who marries a helpless young man Dev in order to protect him from evil forces as she believes the goddess has chosen her for this task. The interesting narrative of the show presents the story of Durga who time and again in tested/troubled times with the divine help of Mata Rani helps Dev out of all his problems.

What made you say a yes to the character and to this show?

Dev is a very intriguing character who plays a pivotal role in Durga’s life. He is mentally challenged and is the only heir to the Aneja family who is very wealthy and well to do. The part of being mentally challenged is what grabbed my eyeballs. I feel as an actor very few artist get the opportunity to face a challenge in their career in terms of the character traits. It’s easy for everyone to play a hero but it’s a challenge when someone has to play a character which is out of their comfort zone. I am really excited to play this role and I am looking forward to the response of the audience for this show

Tell us about your character in the show?

As I mentioned above, I will be seen essaying the character of Dev in the show. He is the only heir to his fathers’ wealth. He is dominated by his aunt Damini, who keeps him mentally and physically weak. He also has a love for painting which plays a crucial part in this show. He plays the pivotal role in Durga’s life.  He despite of being mentally challenged has only one aim in his life,“To return to normalcy and take charge of his inheritance and become a worthy partner of Durga.”

What preparations did you do for this show?

Like I said, this is the first time I will be seen playing the role of a mentally challenged boy, which is a challenge in itself. I did my bit of homework and research where I watched a lot of movies and read a lot about specially abled people. While being mentally challenged is one of the trait, the other characteristic of my role is that I am a painter. So I watched quite a few youtube videos and movies like Barfi for example that has inspired me to play this role.

What are your expectations from this show?

Fiction is one such genre that pleases the viewers. I am looking forward to the audience’s reactions on our love story which will beautifully trace the journey of Durga. I am very positive about this show as it’s a one of a kind show where we are trying to drive on the thought line of - We don’t meet people just as a coincidence, they are meant to cross path of each other for a reason, known only to divine forces. The entire team of Durga has put in a lot of efforts and I am hoping our hard work is appreciated for the same.

Back to shoot life post the lockdown. What are your views?

It feels great to come back on sets and begin shoot in this new normal. Things have changed but the vibe has remained same. There is a different kind of happiness that comes while facing the camera. Speaking in terms of safety, a lot of precautions have been taken. Proper sanitization and safety measures are taken, in and around the shooting premises. We adhere to social distancing as and when out shot gets over. Wearing mask is a priority that everyone keeps in mind without and reminder.

How is your experience working with your co-actors?

The entire cast and crew of the show is very supportive and fun to work with. These are initial days but the teams seem to be promising to have a blast and full of entertainment in the long run.

What other projects are you working on right now?

As of now, my only focus is on Durga. No plans for future, completely committed to my show.

How much are you getting paid? Are there any changes made post the lockdown?

For me the only thing that matters is the opportunity to connect with the audience and that is the best form of gratification for an actor is to receive whole lot of appreciation and love.

What is the message that you would want to give to your fans?

I am happy to be a part of daily soap. This is not a comeback but it is just me returning home. A home where I will be able to meet you every day. I would like to thank each and every one for the love and support they have always given to me. The success of our show Durga will certainly be dependent on everyone.  The show will soon come on your favorite channel Star Bharat.

The concept of show is being compared to the South Indian shows on the Star Network; what are your comments on the same?

Yes there have been shows on Star Network around the same concept and they are doing extremely well, hence we wanted our Hindi speaking market audience also to experience it, hence the makers decided to bring this show to the viewers through Star Bharat.

Your lockdown experience

When the lockdown started initially, we were not aware that it would last this long since it did last for this long. I spent a lot of quality time for myself and focused on my art and love for acting. I think this lockdown has got families together and I have cherished each and every moment with my family.

Have you slashed your fees due to COVID?

I feel this not the time to think about it as a payment slash, as an actor my job is to perform and entertain audience. Star Bharat is generous enough as I would not call it payment slash. I am just grateful to be an entertainment warrior and if I get admiration and support from audience it will be the best.

Do you believe in nepotism?

I am here to talk about my show and would not like to comment on this.

It is said that you’re the replacement king in the television industry, what is your take on that?

Well, this is the first time I have heard this that I have been called as the replacement king in the industry. My take on this is that I believe you don’t choose a character the character chooses you and I am truly greatful to all my previous producers and makers of the show that they believed in me and trusted the fact that I could take on the baton and move forward. Whereas talking about the current times, I hope my role in Durga would probably change their perception and see me as a lead actor. I believe in my art and love for acting and dedication to my profession and I am sure my hard-work will pay off
