Demises in 2015
Bollywood had to bear the loss of a few of its stars during the past year, those artistes who left behind a void that can never be filled. As we are about to ring in the new year, BollyCurry pays a tribute to the stars as a final farewell
Bollywood had to bear the loss of a few of its stars during the past year, those artistes who left behind a void that can never be filled. As we are about to ring in the new year, BollyCurry pays a tribute to the stars as a final farewell.
The loss of Labh Janjua, a playback singer with the most unique voice was a huge shock for the fraternity and fans alike. Some of his most memorable works include his breakout solo hit "Mundian To Bach Ke" which was also featured in the movie Boom (2003), "Pyaar Karke" from Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), "Soni De Nakhre" in Partner (2007), "Jee Karda" from Singh Is Kinng (2008) and recently he had ruled the music charts with "London Thumakda" from Queen (2014). A spirited voice with strong regional roots, this talent will surely be missed.
Saeed Jaffrey was a master thespian
who had the uncanny ability to transform himself into a character of any era, race or background. Jaffrey was a theatre artiste who went on to be a stalwart in both Hindi and English language movies and in the process, starred alongside some of the most famous names of both the industries. Jaffrey will be remembered for his performances in movies such as Shatranj Ke Khilari (1977), Masoom (1983), Gandhi (1982) and Ram Teri Ganga Meli (1985).
The loss of Ajit Deol, father of Abhay Deol and younger brother of Dharmendra Singh Deol was mourned by the entire Bollywood industry. Deol had acted in a number of Punjabi films and directed a few Hindi movies including Meharbaani (1982), starring Dharmendra. We offer deepest condolences to one of the most close-knit families of Bollywood, who suffered such a loss.
Mohan Bhandari was an actor
more renowned for his work on the small screen, although he has been a part of movies such as Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005) and Paheli (2005). His most popular performances were showcased in shows such as "Saat Phere - Saloni Ka Safar", "Kitty Party" and "Parampara".
Ashraful Haque was a part of acclaimed movies such as Paan Singh Tomar (2012), Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 (2012) and Fukrey (2013). Haque was an artiste with a strong theatre background and was a National School of Drama graduate. He was also featured in popular commercials and this director's actor will be sorely missed.
Aadesh Shrivastava was a singer
and music composer who also judged the popular reality show "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge". Some of his most popular compositions include"Hatho Me Aa Gaya Jo Kal Rumaal," from Aao Pyar Karen (1994), "Say Shava Shava" from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), "Gustakhiyan Hain" from Aankhen(2002), "Chali Chali Phir Chali" from Baghban (2003) and "Mora Piya" from Rajneeti (2010). A great talent that he was, gone too soon!
Sudha Shivpuri was a legendary actress who immortalised the character of "Baa" in the iconic serial " Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi". A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, she was also a part of movies such as Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979), Insaaf Ka Tarazu (1980) and Pinjar (2003). She was a theatre veteran and her contribution to the theatre community, along with her screen performances will be forever remembered.
BollyCurry wishes for the legacy of those departed to live on and offers prayers for their souls to rest in peace. May their works be never forgotten and continue to serve as an inspiration for the others.
