Delhi High Court asks Khandaani Shafakhana makers to screen film for Sexologist before release!

Sonakshi Sinha starrer Khandaani Shafakhana has faced a bit of a problem before its release. A Delhi-based sexologist Dr. Vijay Abbott has filed a stay order suit in High Court against unauthorized and illegal use of his father's well-reputed trademark ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’. He even wrote to the Censor Board to not grant a Censor Certificate to the film.

And in response to the same, the Delhi High Court asked Super Cassettes Pvt Ltd to hold a special screening of the film for the sexologist before it hits the screens. A single-judge bench comprising Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw has asked the makers to show the film to Dr. Vijay on July 26 in order to address his concerns. The court will again hear the matter on July 29.

News agency PTI quoted the court saying, "No statements regarding the movie shall be made and no information of the film will be divulged to anyone. Prima facie not satisfied with the contention. The trademark since 1st June 2001 hasn’t been used."

Despite the High Court’s order to screen the film for Abbott, Super Cassettes was initially doubtful to hold the private screening before the film’s release. They said it could lead to litigants demanding to view the movie in the future and instead suggested to show the film to Justice Endlaw alone. However, the court did not agree to the idea and so the makers had to comply to hold a screening of the film on July 26. 

Directed by Shilpi Dasgupta, Khandaani Shafakhana is a story of a girl who runs a fertility clinic and the obstacles she has to face from the society which is quite conservative in nature when it comes to sex. The film stars Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Sharma and rapper Badshah in lead roles. The film is set to hit the theatres on August 2, 2019.
