Deepika Politely slams Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy?

Ever since Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh made its way to the big screen, a section of the audience did not digest the film along with its flaws yet they failed to acknowledge its Box-office earnings as well. 

The film saw a dramatic entrance at the theatres and while the audience saw Kabir Singh as Shahid’s one of the best performances in his career, some scenes proved to be intense and the film was instantly tagged as misogynistic and a film which promoted toxic masculinity.

Recently, pan India actors were seen in a discussion with Anupama Chopra which included actors like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Aayushmann Khurrana, Manoj Bajpai, and Vijay Deverakonda. 

Now, Qarib Qarib Single actress Parvathy Thiruvothu’s stance over Kabir Singh is making its way to the headlines. And while she was being hailed for voicing out her stand, Deepika Padukone has piqued the interests for backing the actress for her thoughts on Arjun Reddy.

Deepika Padukone first had a poker face, while Arjun Reddy actor Vijay Deverakonda was defending his film Vijay’s words made her smirk so much so that she went back staring at the floor, stonily and the rage was clearly seen as she grabbed her coffee mug. 

Deepika, subtly gave it back as she said at the round table conference, “In our country, cinema has the power to influence. It may not be the only reason for influence … but whether we like it or not, cinema and cricket are the two most influential things.” 

And then indirectly pointing  Manoj and Vijay’s name into her statement, Deepika said, “You’ve got to do that responsibly or not. That’s a choice each one has to make individually--what they want to make of that opportunity that you’re given, of the platform. But, you cannot deny the fact that cinema hugely influences society.”

Vijay tried defending his and Shahid Kapoor’s characters in Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, he said, “Maybe there is a couple who is so in love, it is completely possible if you think of it broadly, that a couple is completely in love, and they give each other little hits and stuff and they completely understand, and they are still in love.”

And Manoj Bajpayee backed him up.

The film has received mix reviews from the audience but one thing is for sure; Kabir Singh has initiated a lot of discussion about a film.
