Mame Khan, a member of the Indian contingent, performed the famous Rajasthani folk song. Deepika Padukone, who played Rani Padmaavati in Padmaavat, led the other actors in the ghoomar steps. Urvashi and she both wore black outfits. Tamannaah was dressed in a multicolour striped gown, while Pooja was dressed in a white gown. All four danced together, amid applause from the rest of the contingent and the media.

Deepika is a member of the eight-person jury for the Cannes Competition, which began on May 17. "As a country, we have a long way to go. I am very proud to represent India as an Indian, but when we look back over the 75 years of Cannes, there have only been a few Indian films, actors, or talent that have made it. I believe that as a nation, we have the talent and ability; we just need conviction. I truly believe that there will come a time when India will no longer need to attend Cannes; instead, Cannes will come to India." She made the remarks following the inauguration of the India Pavilion here, which was live streamed on the PIB's official YouTube channel.

The India Pavilion was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Cannes Film Market by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, in the presence of music legend AR Rahman, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, and actors R Madhavan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, among others.

India, which will also be honoured at the 2022 Marche du Film (Cannes Film Market), is celebrating its 75th year as an independent country.
