Deepika Padukone on her parents' reaction to her character in Gehraiyaan: It was tough for them

Deepika Padukone is currently enjoying the success of her film Gehraiyaan, which recently released on Amazon Prime Video. The film also had Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi in key roles. It gained rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. 

Recently, in an interview with NDTV, she shared how her family viewed her personality. She admitted that her position was tough for them to accept because it was so personal. Deepika plays 'Alisha,' a complex, emotionally naive character who has an affair with her cousin's fiancé, in the Shakun Batra helmed film. She went on to claim that her family has seen her through it and that she believes it was challenging for them to go through it.

Further, talking about it, Deepika said,

"The film also dealt with mental health in a genuine manner. I think what people really loved was my acting, as well as the way mental illness and mental health were depicted in the film".

Recently, Deepika took to her social media account and penned a heartwarming note for her fans and followers expressing her gratitude shown towards her film Gehraiyaan. The caption read, 'The response to Gehraiyaan has been dizzying, to say the least! ‘Alisha’ has been my most visceral, indelible, and delicious experience as an artist. While I am ecstatic and overwhelmed, I am also truly grateful and humbled!' 

The actress remarked in an interview with a news portal that the movie's concept was 'more observant,' and that while one may or may not concur with or approve the decisions that characters like this undertake, that does not imply they don't exist. She added how it is not important to comply with all of the choices, but as an actor, one must remove themself from that judgmental lens and humanise this figure.
