Despite receiving mixed reviews and facing stiff competition at the ticket windows, Cocktail 2 has kicked off its theatrical journey on a promising note. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, the romantic drama crossed the double-digit mark on its opening day, giving the makers a reason to celebrate and setting the stage for a crucial weekend run.

The Romance Drama Starts With A Healthy Figure

Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 collected an estimated Rs 13.50 crore on Day 1, comfortably crossing industry expectations that had placed the film in the Rs 10-12 crore range. The opening figures become even more significant considering the crowded box office landscape, with films like Bandar, Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Main Vaapas Aaunga, Obsession, and Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past all competing for audience attention.

The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of around 20.04%, with collections improving steadily as the day progressed. Night shows emerged as the strongest performer, indicating positive word-of-mouth and stronger turnout among younger audiences. Multiplex chains reportedly contributed significantly to the opening-day earnings, suggesting that urban centres remain the film’s biggest strength.

Better Opening Than The Original, Shahid’s Second-Best Start

One of the biggest talking points is how Cocktail 2 compares to the beloved 2012 original. While the first film gradually grew into a blockbuster through strong audience appreciation, the sequel has managed to start much bigger right out of the gate.

For Shahid Kapoor, the film marks his second-highest opening day collection, trailing only Kabir Singh, which had opened at Rs 20 crore before going on to become a Rs 279 crore blockbuster. The latest release may not be operating at Kabir Singh levels yet, but it has delivered a solid commercial start and reaffirmed Shahid’s box-office pull in the romance genre.

Weekend Growth Will Decide The Real Story

The real test for Cocktail 2 begins now. Trade experts believe the film has enough appeal among young audiences and multiplex viewers to register substantial growth over Saturday and Sunday. Advance bookings and evening occupancy trends already point towards a potential jump over the weekend.

The film, written by Luv Ranjan and marketed as a spiritual successor to Cocktail, revolves around the complicated lives and relationships of three central characters. Alongside Shahid, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna play key roles, with Pulkit Sharma and Tiku Talsania appearing in supporting parts.

While it remains too early to predict its final destination, Cocktail 2 has successfully cleared its first hurdle. If weekend momentum holds and audience chatter remains favourable, the romantic entertainer could be headed for a strong first week and perhaps even surpass the lifetime domestic earnings of its predecessor.
