Celebs Shocked over Rishi Kapoor's Sudden Demise: Amitabh says he's 'Destroyed'

Rishi Kapoor who was battling cancer for a long time is no more with us. The morning of April 30, 2020, turned out to be another black day for the Hindi film industry who was still recovering from the death of one of its beloved gem Irrfan Khan and then came another devastating news about Rishi Kapoor.

At the age of 67, the veteran actor left for heavenly abode. For the last few days, the actor had been unwell, following which he was admitted to Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai and last night he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

After giving a tough battle to Cancer, this morning at 8:45 am IST, Chintu Ji (as he was fondly called) surrendered to his illness and departed. His family has released a statement that reads:

"A message from Rishi Kapoor’s family:

Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. 

He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him. 

He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. 

In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. 

He would not have it any other way."

As soon as the news came out, Bollywood celebs could not believe it and expressing their shock, they took to their social media account and posted condolence messages.

Amitabh Bachchan in his post wrote that he is 'destroyed: "T 3517 - He's GONE .. ! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed !"

Akshay Kumar said: "It seems like we’re in the midst of a nightmare...just heard the depressing news of #RishiKapoor ji passing away, it’s heartbreaking. He was a legend, a great co-star and a good friend of the family. My thoughts and prayers with his family."

Genelia Deshmukh wrote: "I just remember meeting you a couple of months ago.. So so warm and one of the best evenings of my life with conversations straight from the heart .. Our Deepest condolences to Neetuji, RiddhimA, Ranbir and the entire Kapoor family.. Heartbroken #RipRishiji"

Ajay Devgn posted: "One blow after another. Rishi ji’s passing away is nothing short of a stab to my heart. We associated in Raju Chacha (2000) and stayed in touch through...until now. Condolences to Neetuji, Ranbir, Riddhima & Dabbooji Folded hands"

Juhi Chawla could not believe the news and expressed her shock: "No no no no .... this is not happening ...!! This is sad ............... ... very very very very very sad...!!! See-no-evil monkey.... I'm shocked beyond words .....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Raveena Tandon too was on similar lines and wrote: "No . Cannot be true"

Sharing a picture with Rishi Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh wrote: "Am devastated, heartbroken... King of charm, King of Romance, the legendary actor Rishi ji just said ‘pack-up’. Not fair Sir, you said we will do a film together.... just not fair.
